Community-Engaged Research Grants

CSREA invites proposals for its Community-Engaged Research Grant program, promoting interdisciplinary collaborations on racial and economic equity in New England, with a focus on areas like education, policy, and social issues.

CSREA Community-Engaged Research Grant Application (AY 25-26)

Brown University's Center for the Study of Race and Ethnicity in America (CSREA) is a leading voice in exploring and researching complex social and cultural issues related to educational, economic, and political resources, as well as the dynamics of power within society. It brings together scholars and practitioners at the forefront of addressing the most pressing questions about race, ethnicity, and their intersections with other social factors.

The Center invites proposals from teams of faculty, postdocs, and graduate students whose research focuses on racial and economic equity work in New England for the Community-Engaged Research Grant program. We especially encourage proposals that engage work with community-based organizations and seek local and cross-institutional partnerships composed of interdisciplinary research teams of faculty, students, and community members. Lead applicants may be either internal and/or external to Brown University but must include a partner affiliated with Brown. Broadly speaking, projects may include:

  • Evaluation of equity-focused interventions in K-12 and higher education settings and local communities
  • Research on the impact of local, regional, or national policy and practice changes on educational outcomes for racially and economically marginalized students
  • Engagement with educational, economic, health, social, and/or cultural issues pertaining to race, ethnicity, and/or indigeneity in the New England region

Proposed projects may be tailored more specifically to emergent local and regional issues.

Grantees will be required to present their findings at future convenings and contribute to the knowledge hub, ensuring that their work is disseminated widely.
