The Center for the Study of Race and Ethnicity in America (CSREA) is offering an opportunity for eligible graduate students to apply for the Centering Race Consortium’s (CRC) Teaching Race Graduate Fellowship during the Fall 2026 semester.
CSREA has partnered with colleagues at Yale University, Stanford University, and the University of Chicago to organize a professional development speaker series for graduate students under the auspices of the Teaching Race Graduate Fellowship. The CRC initiative was originally funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. With generous support from the Nellie Mae Education Foundation, CSREA has expanded the group to include neighboring New England institutions, in collaboration with Brown University.
The Fellowship
In virtual sessions held on Mondays from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM, throughout the Fall 2026 semester beginning September 28, 2026, a faculty affiliate of one of the host institutions will discuss a topic or text that they find challenging to teach and how they teach it, with special emphasis on concrete strategies for supporting difficult conversations in the classroom regarding race and ethnicity. Students will engage with faculty presenters and peers through Zoom sessions and an online discussion forum, while developing a draft syllabus or lesson plan of their own.
Eligibility
To be eligible for this fellowship, students must be enrolled in a graduate program (Master's or Ph.D.) at Brown University or another institution in New England and be in good standing. Participants will receive a $500 USD stipend for the fellowship term, provided to further their education and research, and contingent upon regular attendance and participation.
All applicants are responsible for confirming their eligibility to receive the stipend with their home department and institution. Students with international student status should also confirm this with their institution's international student services office.
